You may have seen the symbol on our website that identifies our brand as being Climate Neutral Certified. This is something we’re very proud of. But what does this certification mean, and how did we get it?

Climate Neutral

Climate Neutral is a third-party organization that provides auditing, offsets, and reduction plans for brands like us. As a third party, it can verify that we are rigorously maintaining our pledge to have net zero emissions, so you don’t have to take our word for it. They seek to reduce all brand carbon emissions to zero, and are spread across the globe aiding companies in the awareness and reduction of their carbon footprint.

The Process

There are three steps in the Climate Neutral certification process.

The first is getting an accurate measure of our emissions. This involved an audit of all our emissions, such as from shipping, production, internal office energy consumption, etc. We found that production and shipping were our largest sources of carbon emissions, which makes these areas our greatest focus for reducing our environmental impact.

Once we knew how large our carbon footprint was, we set up a plan to offset our carbon footprint. In essence, this means that for every ton of carbon BE Ultimate is responsible for releasing into the air, we pay for programs that will reduce carbon in the atmosphere by the same amount.

Lastly, alongside Climate Neutral, we put together a plan to become a greener organization overall. This included projects that would reduce our carbon footprint, decrease our waste production, increase the usage of renewables in our supply chain, and more. Part of our agreement with Climate Neutral is that we are held accountable to this plan.

Going Forward

The fight against climate change is never done, and at BE we are constantly looking for ways to improve. We’ve moved to compostable packaging and are following our plan to become B-Corp certified.
