Mika Kurahashi and Zeke Thoreson Win 2026 Callahan Awards
The 2026 Callahan Award winners have been announced, with Mika Kurahashi of UBC and Zeke Thoreson of Colorado Mamabird earning one of ultimate’s highest individual honours.
For Mika, the win is historic. She becomes the first UBC player, and the first athlete from a Canadian school, to receive the Callahan Award. After helping lead UBC to the 2025 USAU College National Championship, Mika and the Thunderbirds followed it with another incredible run in 2026, finishing second after a hard-fought final.

Mika has built her reputation through big-game impact, sharp field vision, and leadership that lifts everyone around her. Alongside her college success, she has represented Team Canada, earned silver at the 2025 World Games, and captained Canada’s U24 Mixed National Team to a silver medal finish.
She has also been part of the BE Ultimate family as a BE-sponsored athlete for the past two years. Based in Vancouver, Mika competes with UBC, the Vancouver Seacows, and Team Canada, and her championship journey was featured in BE Ultimate’s Captain docuseries.

Zeke Thoreson's win adds to Colorado Mamabird’s strong Callahan history. Known first as an elite defender, he has grown into a complete two-way player, bringing speed, stamina, and playmaking to both sides of the disc. His defensive pressure and expanded offensive impact made him one of the most influential players in the division.

Beyond the stat sheet, Zeke has earned respect as a steady leader and fierce competitor. His energy, grit, and humility make him a fitting Callahan winner.
Congratulations to Mika and Zeke on their 2026 Callahan Award wins. We’re especially proud to celebrate Mika — a BE Ultimate sponsored athlete — as she continues to inspire players across Canada and beyond.
