Mika Kurahashi Earns Ultimate Canada Athlete of the Year — Mixed Division
Mika Kurahashi has been named Ultimate Canada’s Mixed Division Athlete of the Year, recognizing a season defined by impact, leadership, and consistency at the highest levels of the game.
The honour reflects a standout 2025 across multiple stages. Mika helped Team Canada earn a second-place finish at the World Games, captained Canada’s U24 Mixed National Team to a second-place finish, and led the UBC Thunderbirds to gold at the 2025 USAU College Championships, securing the title of USAU College National Champions.

As a BE Ultimate–sponsored athlete, Mika is someone we’ve had the opportunity to highlight beyond results alone. In the Captain Docuseries, her leadership comes into focus through a behind-the-scenes look at how she guides teams through pressure, adversity, and momentum shifts over the course of a long season. Within the UBC program, she’s been described as the heartbeat of the team.
The series also captures the work behind her game. Mika has openly acknowledged her competitive drive, reflecting that she’s never wanted anything more than winning a USAU College National Championship—and that turning that desire into reality requires grit and resilience. She’s been candid about her development as well, emphasizing that she wasn’t “born this way.” The cutting ability she’s now known for was built through repetition—practice after practice, rep after rep—setting an example through preparation, persistence, and belief in the process.
The Athlete of the Year award reflects more than a single moment. It recognizes a year defined by growth, responsibility, and leadership. Players like Mika continue to inspire the ultimate community, making it fitting to see her impact recognized through one of the sport’s highest honours.
